Album Art A GoGo

This week I am finishing up what will be the cover of a local bands' album. I was very pleased to do this project as it allowed me great freedom with the piece. The name of the band is Stained Glass Eye and it falls under the psychedelic rock category. As you can imagine, this piece was nothing shy of interpretational. As their debut album I wanted to paint the meaning of their music. For me, it is a little eerie, a little magical. Here is the progress so far. Enjoy.

It's Been a Minute...

Hello lovely art appreciators!
My apologies for not having shared with you in a few months. I started school full time and it seems that class is consuming me whole most days. So without further ado, here is what I've been up to...

In April I donated and dedicated a piece to the Keith Haring tribute show, ART SALVO. All of the proceeds go to the aids foundation. This painting of 'Andy Mouse' was set to be auctioned to the highest bid but they never claimed their prize. If you would be interested in buying art for a good cause it is still available just name your price!

...As for the other pieces I've posted...

The fox cameos are hand painted felt as well as the frames and can be custom made to order. I made a multitude of these for the Crafty Con and they sold like pizza at last call!

The portrait is of Wright Brother, Orville. I originally painted him for the annual Sideshow 8 held each year by the circus art collective. It is 5"x7" and I later decided against showing it for personal reasons.

Finally, I will close with this painting of the woman which is entitled, Operation:Killer! It is my largest piece to date and is roughly 2'x4' give or take. It has been my spring feature for both shows at Clash Art Gallery as well as the 2013 Sideshow 8 show at the Dayton Yellow cab. If you have any art inquiries please contact me via email or find me on Facebook @Crystal Leisure Art ...Thank you and enjoy!

Keep Doing That Art Thang

Well, Friday was magical to say the least. I was surrounded by electricity and inspirational art. I want to thank everyone for coming out to Clash Consignments and supporting my passion. I'm pretty sure you had just as much fun as me since it appeared that we drank them out of their supply and everyone stayed well after the wine ran out! It was a very close call but Ben Riddlebarger and I tied for 2nd place and Mike Guidone won first place. Although I did not take home the winnings, I did leave with something that may be more valuable in the long run. I met a lot of incredible people and found insight and as if I didn't already possess it, more drive to keep painting and being true to my style.
It is on that note that I will introduce my 2nd place painting, the abdominal snowman! Enjoy!

Tonight is the Winter Wonderland Show!

This morning started out a little off kilter. I managed to wake up on time and was even ready for work early! I went to scrape the ice off my car as I warmed it up and when I went to slam the door to shake off the snow...my door locked itself! I tried to open it in hopes that it was just frozen but it wouldn't budge. It was a whopping 10 degrees out and my fingers were freezing by the seconds. Did I mention my car was running?

Luckily, Adam and Lexie were home and I was able to to use my sisters triple A! I was only an hour late to work and my car was rather toasty when I did get in! All of this aside, I refuse to let anything ( frost bite included!) ruin my fantastic first Friday!

I am so excited to see everyone tonight at Clash Consignments on 5th! I hope everyone is planning on making an appearance! I'm especially eager to present my new painting entitled, " the Abdominal Snowman!" I would recommend parking behind Ned Peppers in the BIG parking lot. Avoid the parking lot directly next to it between ned peppers and the Anex so as to avoid getting towed like I've had happen before! For more information visit, www.facebook.com/clashconsignments

See you tonight!

Felt Dracula doll

It's so dark in my house. I don't know if this photo does it justice! Ha.

Felt Dracula doll

I loved this book as a kid so I thought for my Grassroots Christmas I'd gift it to my nephew. I felt kind of cheap about only giving him a hand-me-down book so I made him a Dracula doll like the one Robert carries around in the story. Now he can pretend he's sneaking around Frankenstein's basement too!
Never underestimate the wonders of felt. The head is cotton fabric that I hand-painted with acrylic. I used polyfill for his body and wire for his limbs.
I had such a great time making him! Definitely anticipate some of his friends making their felt debuts soon! I'm thinking Frankenstein's bride...
